‘A Drop On Stone’ is a rough translation of the name Shizukuishi, the town where my project is based. Without any previous knowledge, I randomly chose it on Google Maps and headed there alone. Exploring the desolated area, I came across an abandoned shed full of death. After returning to Tokyo, I was haunted by the gruesomeness of the scene, the mystery of why they were there, and why no one had done anything to dispose of their remains, including me. The following weekend, I traveled there once more to give them a proper goodbye and to find some peace. Months later, I realized this unexplainable crave to go back still exists so I have been continuing to visit time to time. Therefore, this is an ongoing series.
Betty Youg
Born in 1997 in Suwon, South Korea, Betty Youg developed her identity in a town brimming with nature's riches. She then was relocated to Tokyo, Japan with her parents in 2007. As she became accustomed to living in Tokyo, she fell in love with the tattoo scene and started learning tattooing at the age of 13. As she was exploring new mediums, she shifted her main focus from tattooing to photography in the latter half of 2017.
